Denso’s Covercoat System sets new standard in corrosion prevention
- Comprehensive, UV-resistant protection with proven field performance
Denso Inc., a global leader in corrosion prevention and sealing technologies, is highlighting its Covercoat™ System, a comprehensive corrosion prevention solution engineered for steel and concrete columns, support legs, structural steel and a wide range of exposed service pipes and more.
When it comes to protecting structural steel and column bases from corrosion, the Denso Covercoat™ System stands out as a highly effective and user-friendly solution.
Engineered for performance in harsh and corrosive environments, this system is designed to be applied directly to marginally prepared surfaces (SSPC SP 2-3), eliminating the need for costly abrasive blasting. That means less downtime, reduced labor costs and faster application—all without compromising protection. It is ideal for both new construction and maintenance applications where long-lasting protection is essential.
The Covercoat System is specifically designed to be applied to marginally prepared surfaces in accordance with SSPC SP 2-3 standards, eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming full surface preparation. Its high conformability and strong adhesion allow it to encapsulate irregular shapes and profiles, ensuring instant and uniform protection regardless of the underlying substrate. The system is UV resistant and capable of encapsulating lead paint, providing an added layer of safety during remediation projects. By enabling application without the need for plant shutdowns, the Covercoat System reduces operational disruptions and delivers significant cost savings over the life of the asset.
The system is more than just convenient—it’s built for longevity. Once applied, Denso Covercoat™ forms a seamless, durable barrier that delivers > 20 yr of corrosion resistance with virtually no maintenance. This system offers long-term, cost-effective corrosion protection and is resistant to acids, alkalis, salts and other aggressive environmental factors. Its unique formulation eliminates the risk of failure due to intercoat contamination and has demonstrated years of proven effectiveness in the field.
The Covercoat System’s robust design provides instant and uniform protection, making it a reliable choice for asset owners seeking to extend the service life of their infrastructure.
The Denso Covercoat System is composed of six products, each contributing to its superior performance. The process begins with the application of Denso Hi-Tack Primer, a high melting point petrolatum primer that penetrates rust, displaces moisture, and enhances adhesion even on minimally prepared surfaces.
Next, Denso Profiling Mastic is used to smooth irregular profiles and seal around bolts and joints, creating a uniform surface for subsequent layers. Denso Hi-Tack Tape, a high adhesive petrolatum tape, is then applied to provide superior conformability and instant protection, with excellent resistance to UV, acids, alkalis, and salts, and the ability to encapsulate lead paint. This is followed by the application of Denso D14 Scrim, a non-woven polyester designed to add strength and flexibility while conforming to complex shapes. The Denso Basecoat Kit, a two-component durable coating, forms a weatherproof, flexible outer layer that can be applied by brush or roller for easy installation.
Finally, Archco 15 Acrylic Topcoat is applied in two coats to provide a long-lasting, flexible finish. This stepwise approach ensures comprehensive, encapsulating protection with minimal risk of intercoat contamination and allows for installation by personnel with varying levels of experience.
Its proven performance includes real-world success stories like the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station in South Africa, where it has stood up to Atlantic Ocean corrosion since 1992.
