Energy losses from the radiant firebox wall of pyrolysis furnaces
The steam cracking unit is highly energy demanding, requiring high-severity pyrolysis furnaces to break the carbon-carbon bonds, as well as high pressure for the purification of its products.
The Authors
Admar Bueno has worked nearly 10 yr in the petrochemicals and energy sectors. He is a Process Engineer at Braskem’s Camaçari ethylene plant in Brazil, where he oversees pyrolysis furnace performance.
Victor Regueira graduated as a Chemical Engineer from the Federal University of Bahia and is finishing his MS degree in industrial engineering. He was an intern at Braskem’s ethylene plant during the development of this work.
R. Luiz Leite has 35 yr of experience in process design, research and development, planning and managing activities in refining and petrochemical projects at Petrobras. At present, he is an Associate Professor at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro’s School of Chemistry.
