LyondellBasell will shut down two polypropylene (PP) lines in Wesseling, Germany, by mid-2012, the company said on Monday.
The lines, with a combined capacity of 90,000 tpy, are among the companys smallest and oldest PP production units.
We continue to focus on reducing costs to maintain our competitive position in Europe, said Bob Patel, senior vice president of olefins and polyolefins for the companys Europe, Asia and international segment.
We have sufficient capacity to meet the needs of our customers in Europe from our larger scale facilities, he added.
LyondellBasell produces PP at eight sites in Europe including facilities in Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.
