Mexico's Pemex says brief fire at Olmeca refinery controlled, operations normal

A brief fire that broke out in the early hours of Saturday at Mexico's Olmeca refinery was quickly controlled and occurred during scheduled maintenance, state oil company Pemex said.

Local media initially reported the blaze at the facility located in Dos Bocas, Tabasco.

In a statement, Pemex clarified that a flame appeared outside a vacuum residue storage tank around midnight while workers were conducting steam-emptying and controlled venting operations.

The company stated the incident was immediately brought under control using established safety protocols and posed no risk to personnel, the facility, or the surrounding community.

The refinery is operating normally and maintenance work is continuing as scheduled, Pemex added.
