For corrosion risk assessment and control, ample published research exists on the inherent corrosivity of combinations of naphthenic acid and sulfur in refining systems, but not on the chemistry and mechanism of corrosion inhibitors. This work offers refinery engineers insight into the construction of corrosion inhibitor molecules, as well as how differences in molecules impact the performance of the inhibitor and the risk of fouling in crude units and hydroprocessing units.

OxyChem, Mexichem announce startup of JV ethylene cracker in Texas
INGLESIDE, Texas — Ingleside Ethylene, LLC, the 50/50 JV between Occidental Chemical Corporation, a subsidiary of Occidental Petroleum Corporation, and Mexichem, S.A.B. de C.V., announced that its ethylene cracker at OxyChem’s Ingleside, Texas, complex began operations on schedule and on budget. The ethylene cracker is currently in a production stabilization phase.

DOHA, Qatar – Qatar Petroleum announced a plan to integrate the activities of Qatar Vinyl Company (QVC), which is part of Mesaieed Petrochemical, into Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO), which is part of Industries Qatar, through a service agreement arrangement. The result will be a single company, QAPCO, operating the facilities of both companies.

Jiangsu Sailboat petchem starts Honeywell UOP methanol-to-olefins unit
DES PLAINES, Ill. -- Honeywell announced that Jiangsu Sailboat Petrochemical Company, Ltd. started its UOP Advanced Methanol-to-Olefins (MTO) unit during a 10-day test to confirm successful operation. When the full unit goes on line, it will have an annual production capacity of 833,000 mtpy, making it the largest single-train MTO unit in the world.
