Dow Chemical forms carbon fiber, derivatives JV with Turkey's Aksa
Dow Chemical and Turkish acrylic fiber company Aksa have formed DowAksa Advanced Composites, a JV to manufacture and commercialize carbon fiber and derivatives. Aksa and Dow each hold a 50% stake in the JV, which will finance its growth through cash flow from operations and financial institutions.
Technip wins FEED work on Sibur Russia PE project
The first contract concerns a linear low/high density gas phase polyethylene plant. Meanwhile, the second deal is for a high density slurry phase polyethylene plant, the company said. Each plant will consist of two parallel production trains with a total capacity of 1.5 million tpy of polyethylene.
SABIC affiliate picks Jacobs for engineering, design on Saudi PE plant
Jacobs was awarded a contract from SABIC to develop a process design package (PDP) and front-end engineering design (FEED) package for an ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) plant in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. Officials did not disclose the value of the deal.
Enterprise to build propane dehydrogenation plant on Texas Gulf coast
Enterprise Products will build a world-scale propane dehydrogenation (PDH) unit on the Texas Gulf coast, with the capacity to consume up to 35,000 bpd of propane to produce up to 1.65 billion lb/year (750,000 tpy or 25,000 bpd) of polymer-grade propylene (PGP). Operations will begin in the 2015 third quarter.
CPChem awards Texas PE project work to Jacobs
The two polyethylene facilities planned are part of CPChem's US Gulf coast (USGC) petrochemicals project, to be located on a site in Old Ocean, Texas, near the existing Sweeny facility of Chevron Phillips.
Sadara venture awards engineering deal to Jacobs for Saudi PE trains
Jacobs was awarded an engineering, procurement and construction management contract for three PE trains for Sadara, the joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Dow Chemical. First production units are expected to come on line in the second half of 2015, with all units up and running in 2016.

Plastics compounder A Schulman says it recently opened global innovation centers in Kerpen, Germany (near Cologne), and in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, one of the main industrial centers in central Mexico. In Germany, the Academy will provide access to high-level machinery and laboratory space.
Solutia awards engineering deal to Jacobs for resin project in Malaysia
Jacobs Engineering Group was awarded a contract from Solutia to provide engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCm) services for the Kuantan resin plant in Kuantan, Malaysia. The companies noted that the project is scheduled to be completed in 2013.
