BASF has teamed up with Endress+Hauser, TechnoCompound and the Universities of Bayreuth and Jena to study how the mechanical recycling of plastics can be improved. With funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the SpecReK project aims to reliably and precisely identify the composition of plastic waste during the recycling process and thus improve the quality of recycled plastics.

NextChem awarded licensing contract for 60,000-tpy SAF plant in Indonesia
NextChem (Sustainable Technology Solutions) has been awarded the licensing and the Process Design Package for a 60,000-tpy sustainable aviation fuel plant located in Sei Mangkei, North Sumatra Province, Indonesia. This will be the first plant that will produce SAF with high efficiency, mainly from palm oil mill effluent (POME), enabling the full valorization of this feedstock in the country.

Singapore's ChemOne delays Pengerang complex's start to 2028
Singapore's ChemOne Group has delayed the start of its Pengerang Energy Complex to the fourth quarter of 2028, with construction set to begin by mid-2025, after securing more financing for the project. When completed, the site is expected to house a petrochemical facility that can produce up to 2.6 MMtpy of products such as paraxylene, a feedstock for synthetic fibers and plastic bottles, and 3 MMtpy of fuel products including jet fuel.
Clariant begins construction of second high performance additives production line in Cangzhou, China
Clariant is expanding its Cangzhou production site for the manufacture of the multifunctional additive Nylostab S-EED. The new, second production line in the Hebei Province of China, will jointly be owned and operated by Clariant and its local partner Beijing Tiangang Auxiliary Co., Ltd.
Samsung E&A awarded $955-MM contract for 650,000-tpy biofuels plant in Malaysia
SAMSUNG E&A announced that it secured the EPCC contract for a 650,000-tpy biorefinery that will have the capability to produce sustainable aviation fuel and other biofuels such as renewable diesel/hydrogenated vegetable oil. This biorefinery will be located within PETRONAS’ Pengerang Integrated Complex, Johor, Malaysia.
Chevron upgrades Pasadena refinery to increase capacity, feedstock and product flexibility
